Peter Lien — Peter has photographed around the globe for over 15 Years. Born in Los Angeles, CA. In 1960, adopted by Kay and George five days later, he promptly left LA for his new home in Port Washington, NY. He later graduated with a BFA in photography in 1984 from Rochester Institute of Technology. Then he served in the US Army as a communications officer in the Reserves with limited Active Duty experience. After leaving active military service he started shooting professionally in Vienna, Austria in 1985 with an assignment for TIME International, he has since worked assignments for many editorial and advertising agency clients.
People are usually his subject matter. Some of his documentary style work was published in a book titled: "OUT IN AMERICA" and has included assignments on topics such as Traditional Healers in Uganda and their response to HIV, and assignments in Karala, India and Antarctica. Peter currently shoots regularly for magazines such as: The Advocate, Red Herring, IFC Rant (Independent Film Channel) Institutional Investor. POZ and Philadelphia Magazine. Peter is now based in Philadelphia and New York and is shooting mostly for advertising agencies, like The Garfield Group, Grey Worldwide and Gillespie; and corporate clients such as: Travelers Bank, Amoco and AND1 as well as AIDS and diversity related non-profit organizations.
Peter's photographic style has also been applied to corporate annual report environmental portraiture assignments to social education photography for the AIDS Information Network and Intercultural Family Services in Philadelphia.
Peter is currently a general member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP).
